12 Nov Being a Teachable Church
The book Irresistible Church gives the reader 12 traits of churches that are not only irresistible to heaven, but are churches that are irresistible to heaven. The concept behind this is that these churches operate in such a way that God wants to bless the church to continue on the work. One of these traits is that the church is teachable. I think that this might be one of the most overlooked traits that our churches need to have. Go figure, I work for Ministry Library making video summaries on church leadership books. But with the church being a group of believers going through the process of sanctification, can we ever say that our church has “arrived”? I think from Scripture we can definitively say that we can’t. So then why do we have so many churches so are refusing to growth and learn from others? Or they carry the attitude that they are all set with their ministries. Stuff is going well, the church is growing so we are gonna sit back and enjoy the ride. I think these churches completely miss out on so much of who God would like them to be. Just like in the life of a believer, churches should be very nervous about reaching a stage of comfort. Comfort leads to complacency and makes us forget about the fact that we truly need God. When we feel like we have mastered something, we no longer feel the need to stretch ourselves to learn and become more effective. With a message as important as ours, I don’t think any church can afford to let themselves go. Sometimes it happens because we become complacent, but sometimes it happens simply because life happens. We have all lost contact with old friends and even family because life keeps us busy. But we make time for what is most important to us. That’s the biggest reason why we started Ministry Library. Pastors are busy, but we can’t afford to stop learning and growing! Knowledge without action is nothing. Life transformation doesn’t happen just because you know you’re next step. It happens when you take the next step. So by reading these blogs, watching our videos, and working through our workshops you are making strides to be an agent of life change in your church and in your community. Keep learning, keep leading, keep growing.
