12 Aug 9 Easy Ways To Grow More Leaders In 10 Minutes Or Less
How many times in the day do you find yourself with a free 10 minutes?
Maybe someone is late for an appointment, or you finished a project 10 minutes before your next meeting. But what do you do with that 10 minutes?
If you’re like me you probably find yourself checking Facebook and then before you know it are watching a monkey in a diaper water skiing.
Well instead of allowing those 10 minute slots to be wasted, why not use them to help grow yourself and your leaders!?
Here are 9 things you can do with those extra 10 minutes that will grow yourself and those around you.
Have someone follow you.
Sometimes you might not have enough time to intentionally teach someone how to do something or train them, but by having a young leader follow you, they will pick up and learn how to do various things just by watching and learning how you do them. Leadership is more caught than taught.
Cultivate a culture of growth
Leaders are learners. By simply taking 10 minutes and finding a blog article or a resource and passing it onto your leaders, you are encouraging them to take steps to improve themselves as a leader.

Take the time to delegate a task
Invest in someone’s ability to lead by delegating something to them. Spent 10 minutes sharing with them what the task is, what success looks like, provide them will necessary resources, and ask if there is anything else they need.
Explain your thinking
A lot of the times as leaders we use decision making filters to lead our teams and organizations. These filters have been established over years of trial and error and learning the ins and outs of leadership.
But… a lot of time, we overlook the fact that we have information in our minds that those we lead don’t.
So next time you give your team guidance or direction, explain what decision making filters let to that result. Pretty soon, your team will begin using those same decision making filters.
Set goals with your team members
Sit them down and ask them these questions. What are the 3 most important things you could accomplish in the next 3 months? If you could only get one thing done this week, what thing would have the greatest impact. Here’s a whole post we did about goal setting with your team.
Give them a Ministry Library Video
Watch a video and set up a follow up time to meet and talk about what they learned and how to best apply that to their ministry.
Giving praise
Too often we catch people doing the wrong thing, but when you focus on catching people doing the right thing and praising that behavior, you give the leader a sense of satisfaction and a desire to continue the correct behavior. What gets celebrated gets repeated.
Don’t give them the answers
Instead of just giving them the answer, ask them questions like these.
What do you think?
What does success look like in his area?
What resources would you need in order to find out?
You really can make a huge different by committing to spending just 10 minutes a day on leadership development!
